The influences of coolant on CBN cutting tools
 

      Majority specialist thought, super hard cutting tools should not use coolant, there are four reasons :

     ⑴ Hardened work pieces. Cutting edge will create high temperature, The nitrogen of PCBN and the nitrogen of CBN will generate chemical diffusion under high temperature cutting, to accelerate the wear of tools .
 

     ⑵ Cutting temperature can easily lead to chilling action of inserts, chipping breakage and tiny breakage will be generated at the moment of penetration of and draw back the tools.

     ⑶ The heat resistance of CBN have not a good role to play.

     ⑷ The cost of recovery processing of coolant is increased and not environment-friendly.

      Milling machining suggested that do not use coolant. Because the cutting temperature will be changed due to the per insert among the change of no-load during milling processing, lead to insert quenching, make the inserts non-normal failure.

      I think that, adopt what kind of machining mode its depend on machining condition, product requirement, process requirement and the processing habits. Its not depend on tools manufacturers some times .

                       
Therefore:

      ⑴ The cutting temperature can not enough lead to happen the chemical reaction between CBN and H2O after adding the coolant, so we can use enough coolant. It will increase tool life 30-200% generally.

      ⑵ Coolant have the function of washing work pieces and machine.

      ⑶ Protection of corrosion of machine and work pieces.

      ⑷ Drop down surface roughness .

      ⑸ Reduce the thermal deformation error and surface defect, etc due to the reason of cutting heat.

      ⑹ Hard to control heat of high speed cutting for testing size on line.

      ⑺ Preventing dust flying when machining Cast Iron, affect people’s healthy.

Suggested to use composite and oil-based coolant. But it also can use water-based coolant.
