The different cutting scope for CBN and PCD inserts
CBN inserts mainly processes black high hardness metals, such as hardened steel and cast steel (iron), which can withstand high temperature (above 1000 degrees) and hardness at HV 8000. It is a good tool material for improving production efficiency and processing difficult-to-cut materials. However, this material is not suitable for processing steels below HRC45, which is prone to adhesive wear and cracking.
PCD inserts mainly processes non-ferrous metals, which can sharpen sharp edges and obtain a better processed surface. It can generally achieve a finish of RA0.2, and it is also the material of first choice for processing non-metallic new materials, grinding, low friction, the hardness can reach more than HV10000, can cut high hardness products such as cemented carbide and industrial ceramics.
